HaMakom Jewish Shiviti Amulet
Size: 3” W x 10.5" L
Materials: wool felt, cotton embroidery floss, sparkly Mouliné Étoile cotton floss, metallic embroidery floss, metal beads, metal cage
Hebrew Text: haMakom (המקום) The Place
Signed & dated on the back
This hand embroidered amulet invokes the Jewish name of G!d/dess that is "The Place" and reminds us to experience the Divine, even in the most unexpected places. It appears three times in the Torah, most famously in Genesis 28:16 when after wrestling the angel, Jacob calls out:
Surely the Eternal is present in this place, and I did not know it!
אכן ישׁ יהוה במקום הזה ,ואנכי לא ידעתי
This particular shiviti was inspired by a friends request to explore this name and the colors of the ancient Mishkan, because in Exodus 25:8 we read,
And let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.
.ועשו לי מקדש ושכנתי בתוכם
The colors pull from the blue, scarlet, purple, "fresh linen," and gold that are the colors the Torah tells us were used in the creation of the Mishkan. The empty “crystal cage” is for you to fill. Be open and inspired. Leave yourself a note. Place stone or small object in it. Place a fresh flower and let it dry. Whatever offerings you are called to make that will help you create a sanctuary within yourself for the presence of the Divine.
A shiviti is a Jewish amulet/focal point for prayer and meditation on the presence of the Divine in all things. To learn more about shiviti see: http://bit.ly/2AoiMuA
